CURRENT LAB MEMBERS
Principle Investigator
Yongfeng Zhou, Professor from the Agricultural Genomics Institute at Shenzhen (AGIS) of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS). Before joining AGIS, he did a Ph.D. in University of Oulu and a postdoc in University of California, Irvine, under the supervision of Prof. Outi Savolainen and Prof. Brandon Gaut, respectively. The Zhou lab studies the population genetics of crop domestication and genomic breeding, mining adaptive, deleterious, structural variants, regulatory networks and phenotype/environment-genotype associations in OMICS data of crops and their wild relatives to practice breeding 4.0 of grapevine and other horticultural crops.
Pre Principle Investigator
Yiwen Wang is a postdoc from the AGIS in Prof. Yongfeng Zhou’s lab. Before joining AGIS, she did a PhD in biostatistics and microbial genomics at the University of Melbourne and completed her master’s degree in bioinformatics from the University of Queensland. Her research interests focus on the studies of transposable elements (TEs) in the grapevine. More specially, she works on the development of methods with high precision to detect TEs and design genetic markers to improve breeding based on TEs for the grapevine. In addition, her interests also involve the integration of multi-omics data and establishing the regulatory networks in the grapevine.
Yanling Peng is a Research Associate from the AGIS in Prof. Yongfeng Zhou’s lab. Before joining this lab, she did a PhD at Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg and a postdoc in AGIS. She completed her bachelor’s and master’s degree from Lanzhou University. Her research interests focus on the mining of cis-regulatory elements related to key economical traits in the grapevine with the integration of multi-omics. In addition, her interests also involve in studying structure variation in the grapevine.
Postdoctoral
Hua Xiao is a postdoctoral fellow working on the crop population genomics. He got a Ph.d in Applied Biological Chemistry in the Univsity of Tokyo and his preivous work focused on heavy metal transport and response in rice.
Xiaodong Xu joined the lab in 2021 as Postdoc, working on Population Genomics and Breeding of Vitis L. He earned Ph.D. in Central China Normal University, where he studied Plant Taxonomy.
Zhiyao Ma is a postdoc fellow working on phylogenomic and adaptive radiation of Vitaceae and Vitis.
Fan Zhang is a postdoc fellow working on population genetics. He graduated from Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS). His research interests involved method development of genome wide association study (GWAS) and genomic selection (GS).
Wenwen Liu is a postdoctoral fellow working on the grape population genetics of somatic mutation. Her previous work focuserd on light-independent regulation mechanism of anthocyanin synthesis in grape.
Zhongjie Liu. I am a post doctor in Agricultural Genomics Institute at Shenzhen (AGIS) of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS). I graduated from Nanjing agriculture university (NJAU) and interested in the grape organ morphogenesis and phenomics in especial fruit and leaf. Now, I am shift some attention to study the molecular population genetics and expected to explain the evolution of muscut in grape.
Hui XUE, 31, coming from Linyi, Shandong Province. I am a PhD student majored in Biosphere Resource Science and Technology, studying at the Life and Environmental Sciences, University of Tsukuba in Japan. Fruit tree genetics and breeding and plant physiology are my main research directions.
PHD
Qiming Long, research assistant of Prof. Yongfeng Zhou’s lab in Agricultural Genomics Institute at Shenzhen (AGIS) , got his bachelor's degree and Master's degree from Lanzhou university. Before joining AGIS, he focused on the research of functional genomics, and now he focusing on the study of population genetics. During spare time, playing badminton, swimming and hiking are his favourite activities.
Rida Arshad is a graduate student of bioinformatics from Agricultural Genomics Institute at Shenzhen in Prof. Yongfeng Zhou’s lab. Before joining AGIS, she completed her Masters in Biotechnology from The University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Pakistan. Her research interests focus on grapevine genomics and breeding. Moreover, she is an award winning student of Chinese Scholarship Council.
Ying Su joined the lab as a research assistant in 2020, after earning her master degree in Agriculture from Nanjing Agricultural University. Ying Su is primarily interested in the population genetics of crop domestication, experimental evolution, and deleterious, structural variants.
Xu Wang is a Pomology graduate student working on grape and fig genomics and population genetics and aims to use the method of big data analysis locks in the key genes of economic traits for better fruit quality.
Postgraduate
Xiaoya Shi is a postgraduate student of Qingdao Agricultural University and Institute of Agricultural Genomics, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, majoring in agronomy and seed industry. Graduated from Jilin Agricultural University.
Yue Wang, graduated from Southwest University, majoring in agronomy and seed industry. Good at Computer Aided Design and Adobe Photoshop.
Siyang Huang, a student majoring in Agronomy and Seed Industry at Guangxi University. Now studying in the Agricultural Genomics Institute at Shenzhen(AGIS).
Xiangnian Su,Graduated from Tibet University with a bachelor's degree . New studying for a master's degree at Guangxi University, majining in forestry.
Tianhao Zhang, a graduate student from Guangxi University, majoring in Plant Physiological Ecology. Now studying in the Agricultural Genomics Institute at Shenzhen(AGIS).
Jialei Li, graduated from Xinjiang University, majoring in biotechnology. Work on botany, bioinformatics and population genetics. Her research interests focus on the studies of transposable element (TE) and somatic variations in the cultivated apple.

Yuwei Wang, visiting graduate student from XinJiang University, majors in botany. Her focus is on apple genome.

Shuo Cao is an intern student in the lab. He graduated from North China University of Science and Technology majoring in biological information. Good at sequence alignment and programming.
Jiacui Li is an intern student in the lab. She graduated from South China Agricultural University majoring in Horticulture. Good at analysis and programming.
Guizhou Huang received his bachelor's degree in bioinformatics from North China University of Science and Technology. At present, I am engaged in the study of grape structural variation in Zhou Yongfeng's research group.
Guests
Dr. Yanhong Song, assistant research fellow, joined Zhengzhou Fruit Research Institute, CAAS at July, 2020. Focusing on strawberry resources collection and function genes identification. So far, studying Fragaria genomics and population genetics at AGIS.
Haixia Zhong, associate professor from the Institute of Horticulture Crops, Xinjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences(XAAS).Associate researcher. PhD. Master Instructor. Research direction is grapevine quality improvement and breeding. She is committed to the mechanism of root-sprocket interaction, study on the control of rootstocks on fruit quality of grape scion varieties, research on excavation, domestication, migration, development and utilization of excellent genes in ancient local grapes in Xinjiang, and research on grapevine genome design and breeding.
Guest student
Nan Wang. I am a visitor PHD students and is studying in Agricultural Genomics Institute at Shenzhen (AGIS) of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS). I come from Huazhong agriculture university (HZAU) and focus on the conflict of plant mating system in citrus, i.e., sexual vs apomixis. Besides, I am interested in the plant evolution features, such as structure variations and local adaptation. By the way, I admire Anna Koltunow (Queensland of University), who is the famous scientists in apomixis.
Qiao Jiangxia, female, 24 years old, is a master student at Xinjiang Agricultural University, her research direction is grape physiological regulation.
Dr. Chuan Zhang, obtained his PhD degree from the Nanjing Agricultural University in 2020. From 2020 to now, he is a postdoc at the Nanjing Agricultural University, working on the fruit physiology and molecular biology.
ChaoChao Li Visiting PhD student. Studying at Huazhong Agricultural University, the main research topic is citrus male sterility and organelle genome evolution.
Research assistant
Ma Anqi, research assistant, graduated from Southwest University of Science and Technology majoring in horticulture with a bachelor's degree. She works as a scientific research assistant. She is familiar with plant planting and likes sports, such as badminton and walking.
Alice Fang serves as a research assistant in the Zhou Lab. She is specialized in winemaking and wine testing. She is also partially working in our vineyard.
